William Shakespeare said "Be not afraid of greatness; some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them." Some people may not be able to distinguish greatness or understand it when it is visible. Fortunately for our generation, we have the distinct privilege of having one of our greatest leaders be the President of the United States. Though President Obama is criticized even when he makes history or does something amazing; some of us still acknowledge the amazing stride and progress that one man has made in a country that was falling apart. Within these past three years in office, The President has accomplished numerous task; some of which his predecessors were unable to do or were unwilling to do. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the recession began in December 2007, 13 months before Obama took office in January 2009. The bureau found the recession officially ended in June 2009, five months after Obama took office. The economy has grown in every quarter since then. Though many people are still with out jobs, the first step would be to stabilize the economy so that businesses can afford to hire new workers. That is why Obama authorized the US Auto industry rescue plan, the Housing rescue plan, US financial and banking rescue plan and the $789 billion economic stimulus plan.
President Obama has made many efforts to ensure that people get a chance to achieve an education and work on an even playing field . During Obama's time in office, he has released funds for new school construction and high-speed, broadband internet access to K-12 schools. He also instituted enforcement for equal pay for women. He is the first President to pass universal health care for every American as well as expanding the SCHIP program to cover health care for 4 million more children.
When it comes to the safety of the United States and the war on terror, Obama has made many notable efforts. Beginning with the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq and ended the previous stop-loss policy that kept soldiers in Iraq/Afghanistan longer than their enlistment dates. The prison at Guantanamo Bay has been phased out, as well as the secret detention facilities in Eastern Europe and else where have been closed. US now has a no torture policy and is in compliance with the Geneva Convention standards. Who can forget about the death of Muammar Gaddafi, Osama Bin Laden and 22 of the 30 most wanted terrorist in the world.
Going into an election year President Obama has proved to be arguably one of the greatest Presidents in history. Peter Drucker said "Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes." If that's the case, then President Obama has proven that he is an amazing leader. The benefit of having Barack Obama as President is being able to be alive to witness greatness in motion.
